Charles Conte owns a bike shop in Richmond called Conte’s Bicycles and Fitness. Susan and Charles met when they worked together at the shop. It was only natural for us to want to include their bicycles in the engagement shoot. It also made it a lot easier to get around with all of our equipment. We just strapped everything to our bikes! Lindsey and Tony were friends all through grade school. After graduating, they found out how much they really cared for each other. Tony is an ice hockey player and he proposed during half time at one of his games!! We found out that skating is a big part of their life. They would have weekly dates at the skating rink as well. We couldn’t resist! I called up Skate Nation who graciously allowed us to use half of their ice rink during skating hours to shoot these engagements! We thought it may be very difficult to walk around on the ice without skates on taking pictures, but it turned out great! The best part? You can actually slide the equipment across the ice like it’s on wheels. No need to actually pick anything up. Lazy, I know, but we take what we can get. To get their full story, see their Fusion.

The First Look occurs when the bride and groom decide to see each other before the wedding. We set up a private and intimate moment for the couple and photograph it from the distance. We absolutely LOVE when brides tell us that they are going to do a First Look, because this means we are going to get a chance to do a plethora of fun and exciting photos of the two of them and sometimes their wedding party BEFORE the wedding! With Megan and Chris, pictured above, we were able to get pictures outside at the city skyline and with an awesome old train. This meant that we were able to keep the photos after the wedding short and sweet so that the bride and groom could join in the reception festivities more quickly. More creative photos + less stress + more time to enjoy your reception= WIN WIN WIN for everyone!

The First Look is a definite way to make the wedding day less stressful, but we want to know what you think. Would you do a First Look?

We especially loved the brownie sundae station at Ashleigh and Ben’s Wedding at the Crowne Plaza. Instead of having a traditional wedding cake, they opted to have the hotel staff serve brownie sundaes that could be personalized with each guest’s favorite toppings.

Most of our brides opted to use their wedding colors and their individual personalities to decorate their candy bar. They chose candys that they enjoy the most and had them displayed in sometimes elegant and beautiful ways and in other times, fun and quirky ways. From candies like spree and twizzlers to rock candy and jelly beans, who could resist? Plus, with the addition of personalized baggies, the candy bar doubles as favors for the guests to take home when they leave. Win, win! Kudos to Lindsey and Tony, Tiffany and William, Rosie and Doug and Bonnie and Shane for these amazing candy bars!

Hi Folks!

Our picture today is of beautiful Me’Shel! Me’Shel is a friend of Brandon’s who recently asked us to do a headshot of her for a pageant. Brandon was able to schedule her  within the same week by squeezing her into our busy schedule. We didn’t need much time. We actually shot this, retouched it and sent it to her today! She is extremely photogenic to begin with which makes retouching much easier. We love this shot because it’s genuine. Me’Shel’s personality shows through beautifully. We have confidence that this photo will represent her well at the pageant and we are excited to be a part of it!

New Years came and went this year and we found ourselves babysitting our wonderful nieces. Brandon and I have no real practical experience with watching children but my brother really needed someone to watch his two girls because they had New Years plans. Being the good sister that I am, I obliged.

The most challenging part of the whole experience was finding ways to keep a 5 year old and a 7 month old busy. We had an entire night in New Kent Virginia (lets face it guys, there aren’t a lot of options) to entertain two young children. I thought that we could have fun taking some pictures of the girls. So I told Tabitha (5) that we could give her some cool makeup and take pictures to show her parents. The moment that I said the word “makeup” her eyes lit up! Makeup on a 5 year old is easy. No need for foundation or cover-up, her skin is flawless to begin with. I dusted some blush on her cheeks and gave her some purple eyeshadow along with some pink lip gloss. She loved it!

We set up a mini photoshoot on her bed (I liked how colorful it was). Then we took cute little Mia (7 months) and got some pictures of her on the bed as well. We like the “high key” effect on Mia’s black and white photos. By the way, for all you new mothers out there, 6-8 months is a great time to get baby photos. At this point they are likely sitting up on their own and may be able to maneuver around a bit for some awesome shots! Mia has big beautiful eyes which was easy to capture in her photos. Enjoy!

Two Posts in one day? I know that never happens, but today it does. Marshie and I were testing our new time lapse photography that we plan to start using at upcoming weddings and the output turned out really great. Check this out, coming to a wedding near you.
